cant , requirement is for telnet only. I need a shell script from which I want to telnet from one linux box to another box.
The purpose of the telnet is just to check if server is up or down. The output will be if telnet successful it will give TRUE if not successful it will return a false between two linux servers.

please note no "EXPECT PACKAGE"

If all you want is to check if system is UP, then you can use ping, why go for telnet?

I'd use the check_telnet utility out of the nagios package. It will do exactly what you need without using expect.
