If you want to download linux free of charge, go to http://www.slackware.com and download it.  It is fairly large, and unless you have a very large pipe (T1, DSL, Cable, etc) it will take several days.  You will also need to read the install documentation.  It will involve creating some diskettes from some downloaded files first.  Or, you could go to http://www.cheapbytes.com and order a cd for a couple of bucks.  You'll probably be done sooner. :)
