Hi Experts,
I have a toshiba 490XCDT laptop that I have never been able to install Linux on. In both redhat and suse, I can see and interact with the GUI installation system, but when I try to configure X at the end of the install, no matter what settings I use (I've tried many combinations of generic and detected), after hitting "OK", the pointer freezes and the display has a white andslightly flickering plasma effect that eventually turns the display completely white.
I have since successfully installed redhat in text mode, and am continuing to try settings via redhat-config-xfree86 but still no luck. Yet I know that the system can display graphical information, since the redhat-config-xfree86 display looks like a GUI control panel with tabs and scrollbars.
Does anyone know what the settings are for the installation program? Knowing these would get me up and running. You would think that the redhat folks would leave things at this resolution so that the install won't fail.
Specs:
Laptop: Toshiba 490XCDT
Video Card: S3 Virge/MX (via detection)
Monitor (laptop): TOS5082 (via detection)
