GRUB hangs and doesnt dual boot

My qn is somewhat related to the one discussed in
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Linux/Linux_Setup/Q_20489543.html

I installed RedHat Linux 9 on my second HDD and my primary HDD has/had Windows XP Pro already on it. During installation I chose to install Grub in the MBR.
When I reboot, all I get is "Grub_".
I opened Linux in the rescue mode from the CD and was able to create a boot disk for it. Using this boot disk, I am able to load the Linux OS and use it successfully.
However, I am completely unable to use XP. I tried the XP CD and the only way seems to be to use "fixmbr" in the Recovery Mode. This mode requires an administrative password.
The problem: I havent used the administrative password for XP in a long time and dont remember it. :-((
How do I get the MBR right so that Win XP loads without having to remember the admin passwd? How did Grub overwrite that area if I cannot access it without admin privileges? I feel that there must be a way to overwrite Grub with something that will make XP happy and also let me load Linux without creating a /boot partition on the primary HDD.

Please help ASAP.
