I actually figured it out myself. I had USB legacy support enabled in the BIOS, which is for OS that don't have USB support. I disabled it and it works fine now.

Browse All TopicsI'm trying to install Mandrake 8.2 on my second hard drive. Win XP Pro is on 1st drive. When I run the Mandrake setup, it locks up with a message on screen that says "in second stage install" if USB is set to 6 port mode in the BIOS. If I set it to 4 or 2 port mode, it doesn't hang, but it won't detect my USB optical mouse. I know my mouse is not plugged in to a port that is disabled by 4 port mode. I also had this problem when trying to run Phlak. I have an MSI KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) motherboard.
Thanks for the help

If you look at the system from XP how many USB controllers do you find? It may be that your motherboard has three USB controllers on-board and it may be that some (or all) of those aren't ones that Linux can use.
