Ubuntu 8.04 Installation Problem

Im trying to install Ubuntu 8.04 on a new computer that has no OS installed.  The computer has the following hardware.  I tried to install from a CD and the installation seemed to go smoothly until it reboots as a final step of the installation.  When rebooting, it stops at the following point:

GRUB Loading stage 1.5
GRUB loading, please wait &
Error 2

I tried to reinstall Ubuntu 8.04 but I get the same error.  I checked the integration of the installation CD and it checked OK.
When I boot into the computer with the CD, it recognizes the hard drive (sd0) that I installed Ubuntu 8.04 and it seems to contain all the installed folders.  From the CD, everything seems to work just fine including the Internet connection.
What has gone wrong with my installation?  Thank you in advance for your assistance.
