Asked by Masasomi in CentOS, X-Windows Window Manager, Linux Setup
I am trying to install vmware server and Compiere ERP on a hosted dedicated server running CENTOS 5.3. I have correctly installed Oracle, MySQL, Java, vmware server 2.0. The problem that I experience is whebever the software installation requires use of a GUI. I am using KDE 4 and X Windows is installed and started. I set up vnc via shh secure tunelling and I can start and connect to a GUI using a VNC viewer. Using KDE tools, File and Konqueror in super user mode and can search and edit files as root.
The problem is caused whenever I require a GUI as part of the install. For example. Having installed vmware server I cannot start vmware sever console. I have tried to export the Display, startx xinit and various other commands without success. I am presented with the tight vnc GUI.
Used yum groupinstall "X Window System" "KDE (K Desktop Environment)" to install KDE.
xdpyinfo results in unable to open display message. Cannot export the display.
