The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

setting up ddclient with dyndns.org

Asked by vkimura2007 in CentOS, Linux, Linux Administration, Linux Setup

Hi,

Just trying to set up ddclient on Centos. The readme file states:
cp ddclient /usr/sbin/
  mkdir /etc/ddclient
  cp sample-etc_ddclient.conf /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf
  vi /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf
-- and change hostnames, logins, and passwords appropriately

  ## For those using Redhat style rc files and using daemon-mode:
  cp sample-etc_rc.d_init.d_ddclient /etc/rc.d/init.d/ddclient
  ## enable automatic startup when booting
  /sbin/chkconfig --add ddclient
  ## start the first time by hand
  /etc/rc.d/init.d/ddclient start

I'm not certain if I was to do the first few steps, that is:
cp ddclient /usr/sbin/
  mkdir /etc/ddclient
  cp sample-etc_ddclient.conf /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf

When I try to execute the last step, that is:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/ddclient start

I receive this:
Starting ddclient: WARNING:  file /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf: file /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf must be accessible only by its owner (fixed).
                                                           [  OK  ]

I'm not logged in as root but I'm as su.

I have this in my /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf

##
## dyndns.org dynamic addresses
##
## (supports variables: wildcard,mx,backupmx)
##
# server=members.dyndns.org,            \
# protocol=dyndns2                      \
# your-dynamic-host.dyndns.org

I'm assume that:
your-dynamic-host.dyndns.org
should be my hostname which is:
seokingdomheaven.dyndns.org

I'm not certain what this line should be changed to:
server=members.dyndns.org,

I'm still new to this and I read most of the pertinent information on the dyndns but I'm not certain how to set up my dynamic web server on my ISP.

Thank you,
vkimura
