Is there any public mainframe out there?

Hello Expert Community,

I am looking for a public mainframe which I can access for educational purposes.
Preferably I would like to connect to it, using a 3270 emulator.
I already have Hummingbird's HostExplorer, but I don't seem to be able to find a public mainframe to connect to.
Can anyone help me out?

http://www.ibiblio.org/jmaynard/ - link to operating systems in public domain, you can legal install and run on Hercules emulator (Hercules is capable of running also z/OS, z/VM, z/VSE)

Unfortunately there are no public mainframes to connect to using 3270.  Part of the problem is that you don't just connect to a mainframe using 3270, you connect to application (CICS, TSO, SuperWylbur, Wylbur, IDMS, ect.).

The links rbrnot provided lead you to Hercules.

Hercules is a IBM mainframe emulator that allows you to run software designed to run on a IBM mainframes.  Although Hercules is supposed to be able to run z/OS, z/VM, and z/VSE legally you can't.  You have to license those OS's and IBM willl not license them for use on Hercules.

You are able to run the great-great grandfather of z/OS, MVS SP, which is from back in the late 70's or early 80's.  However even then you are limited to what applications you can run under that.  You can always write your own.
