Browse All TopicsI am requiring a DOS boot disk (to get a true DOS command line) that has NTFS support so that I am able to go through windows files using DOS (but not using the windows DOS). I was wondering if anyone knew where I could obtain the files to create such a boot disk. I am basically trying to delete some files from windows through a true DOS command line, so many of the applications that I've come across have only allowed for copying, moving, or restoring the files. I'd appreciate any information.

If you don't want to spend any money on a 3rd party utility to allow you to modify NTFS partition contents via a true DOS boot disk, then your best option is probably to use the Windows Recovery Console.
While not a true floppy boot disk, you can access it by booting up an XP CD (assuming XP of course) and selecting R from the first menu that appears. You will need to know your administrator password if one is set. This will take you to a very close approximation of a DOS prompt that will allow you to delete files at will.
The Recovery Console can also be installed to hard drive itself so the XP CD is not required to access it. If installed, it shows as a boot menu choice for XP.

If what you are looking for absolutely has to be a boot disk of some sort, then your only options that I know of would be to either purchase one of the utilities dimitry already listed (since you have to pay for them for write access to NTFS) or to use a boot CD created with something like BartPE.
BartPE is a utility that allows you to build XP onto a bootable CD. I've found it very handy for recovering data off of completely non-bootable systems on which recovery console won't work (sometimes RC can erroneously report an admin password on systems that have none if the system was loaded using an image program as all the major PC makers do). BartPE will give you full read/write access to the drive, the only drawback being it's a CD instead of a DOS floppy.
