The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Select weather to boot from floppy or from hard disk

Asked by dbrckovi in MS DOS

Hi!

I have a DOS boot disk created by formating it with /S paramemter.
When I restart the computer with this floppy inserted, I'd like to have two options:
 - to continue booting from floppy
 - to boot from hard disk (like it would normaly boot if floppy wasn't inserted)

I have seen few boot CD's which provide this option. For example Win98 SE setup CD literaly displays two options like I described, and WinXP waits for few seconds for user to press a key. If any key  was pressed it boots from CD, otherwise it boots from HD.

How can I do something like that?

Notes:
If it makes any difference; I'm actualy using DOS Boot CD which I've created by burning floppy image to it with Nero.

Here is the contents of Config.sys and Autoexec.bat; in case this is done by modifying those files:
---------CONFIG.SYS------------------------
files=20
buffers=30
lastdrive=z
break=off
dos=high,umb
device=HIMEM.EXE
device=EMM386.EXE
DEVICE=VIDE-CDD.SYS /D:OEMCD001

----------AUTOEXEC.BAT------------------
@ECHO OFF
PROMPT $P$G
SET PATH=A:\

SET SNDSCAPE=C:\DOS\EAPCI
SET BLASTER=a220 i5 d1 t2

MODE CON:RATE=32,DELAY=1
C:\DOS\EAPCI\APINIT
SMARTDRV 8192

DOSKEY /INSERT
MSCDEX /D:OEMCD001 /L:K /M:8
C:\DOS\NTFS5\NTFSPRO
CTMOUSE /R2
-------------------------------------------------------

Thanks!
