you can also use CMD with switches or the 'call' program. Do not forget to add 'exit' command to close the batch file once complete.

In a DOS command window running Windows XP, I can enter the command:
notepad filename.txt &
and notepad opens a file with the name filename.txt for editting, but allows me to continue to use the command window for additional tasks. That is, it runs the editor in the background.
However, if I create the DOS batch file called edt.bat containing the line:
notepad %1 &
When I enter,
edt filename.txt
The file runs but I can not use the window for other tasks. If I enter,
edt filename.txt &
Same result. is there a way to apply code to a batch file which will allow the task to run in the background such that the window can still be used?
Thanks in advance.
