Hi Experts,

I need to find out which desktops / or notebooks are currently online using CMD.

The result should output it to specified location (e.g., c:\documents and settings\%username%\my documents

My domain server in running on Windows 2008 server

Appreciate any help.

Hi mcse2007,

you could simply run

tasklist /FI "IMAGENAME eq cmd.exe" > "\\server\whatever\%username%.txt"

on the client periodically.

Ummm I have no idea why Buck is trying to display the tasklist.
You want something like this:

net view > "c:\documents and settings\%username%\my documents\machines.txt"

BTW, you should use %userprofile% instead of c:\documents and settings\%username%.
The reason is that your profile path could be something like bob.001, but %username% will only be looking for bob.

Buckmeister, I just came across this question, wondered why on earth you were running Tasklist, and then looked at the phrasing of the question again:
"I need to find out which desktops / or notebooks are currently online using CMD."
Indeed, your reading of it was what it literally asked.

It's a case not unlike a statement from a 60's book for new parents:
"If your baby doesn't like raw fruit, boil it",
or the very dangerous instructions on a can of food:
"stand in boiling water for 20 minutes."
