The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Batch file to take list of .txt files and input as variables

Asked by dwarner8 in MS DOS, Miscellaneous Security

I need a batch file to list a given directory by just text files in a flat format and input them into a variable a user can choose, for instance

dir *.txt /b

the contents would then show

something.txt
somethingelse.txt

then I would like to take the files listed and input them into choices using set command so user can select what files he wishes to review

1. something.txt
2. somethingelse.txt

Please select your first file to compare:

the user would then enter whatever number corresponds to the filename,

the program then loops and gets second file name to compare

the program should now have 2 filenames stored in variables so I can use them to compare the deltas between 2 files.

Background:

Each week we run a script on the windows directory which searches for all .exe, bat, com, cmd, and dll files and pipes the output to a textfile named after the computer and the date. Then a week later, the admin can run this again and see what has changed since the last run. This is obviously for security. I can run the compare manually but the system is being delivered and it would be much better if we did the work for them.
