Application Experience Lookup Service Fails To Start
On a SBS 2003 DC the application experience lookup service fails to start during every boot up. What could cause this? The event logs states that the application this service is configured to run in does not implement this service. The service is set to automatic. After boot up if I try to start the service manually it has a pop up window with error 1083: The event logs states that the application this service is configured to run in does not implement this service. There are no dependencies listed. The path to the executable is c:\windows\system32\svchos t.exe -k netsvcs and uses the system log on. This has been happening ever since I have been introduced to the server so I don't know when it started. Thanks for any help on this issue.

“The Application Experience Lookup Service is a part of the Application Compatibility Administrator. The Application Experience Lookup Service provides support for Windows Server 2003 computers on a domain. This service reports on compatibility issues and automatically applies software updates to programs. The Application Experience Lookup Service must be running for the software updates be applied. You cannot customize the Application Experience Lookup Service. This service is used by the operating system internally. This service does not use any Active Directory, network, or Internet resources. The functionality of the Application Experience Lookup Service can be disabled though Group Policy settings for program compatibility. When this setting is disabled, the service will continue to run, but no calls will be made to the service. The service cannot be stopped or disabled. "
It sounds like if I disable this service, if possible, I would introduce other problems.
