     Hi whatisthwsolution
Does that crash occur suddenly? Or while you are working on something?
              *Try installing SP 2. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=95AC1610-C232-4644-B828-C55EEC605D55&displaylang=en

Hi  - no The server has already Windows2003 SP2 installed -  we made slipstreamed SP2 cd's right away when the SP2 was released and installed it on all our servers. :-)

No this is something else. Also the McAfee framework service refuses to start.. (Enterprise virusscan 8.5) I'm trying to get hold of their gold support for that part. (But if you have any idea... :-) )

Thanks a lot in advance.

*Do you encounter the error when all McAfee services stopped?

This night :-( -
The server(board/bios) has a automatic overclocking feat. which failed (Never happened before), and the 2003 Enterprise OS froze on startup so we had to make a hardcore reboot..  And after that the server booted normally and came up and then reported that "At least one service failed to start" We looked into the logview and found that the frameworkservice.exe failed to start + the event mentioned above.

I forgot the mention that the server is a clean (re)install - justt 5 days old. So it almost like newborn. :-)
Anyway it's a production server running a mission critical business applications on sql and http.

            Hi whatisthesolution
frameworkservice.exe looks like a commonly used component by McAfee. Hard-reboot must have affected it or it's dependant components. I suggest a chkdsk at first. Then...
*If frameworkservice.exe does not fail after another reboot, system should work fine.
*If it continuously fail, then you should repair or uninstall, restart server, then reinstall McAfee.
*Please send any other errors in Eventlogs if exist

Regards

Try adding frameworkservice.exe to the Windows DEP exception list. This worked for me with another app that started to break only after installing Windows 2003 SP2. (Reinstalling the app did not help, but tried that first.)

to do this:

1. From the Start menu load the Control Panel and choose the System applet.
2. From the Advanced tab, click the Settings button under the Performance group.
3. Change to the Data Execution Prevention tab.
4. Enable Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select: radio button.
5. Click the Add button and from the dialog box browse and find frameworkservice.exe.
7. Click the Apply and OK buttons to apply the changes.
8. Restart the macafee services (or reboot the server and that will restart everything.)

Don't know if this will help with this app, but it fixed our problem. Our little backup app didn't have any issues until sp2, which makes me think that SP2 handles DEP a little differently.

Good luck.

I had the same issue and also was also running McAfee VirusScan 8.0i.  I found upgrading to 8.5i fixed the issue.

What about if you're runnning 64-bit apps? I get a notice saying, "You can not set DEP attributes on 64-bit executables.
