How to replace MOB battery

My motherboard battery is probably weak because the DATE / TIME monitor display is alway behind the actual current date / time.
I've have to adjust the date / time many times when I start up the computer but after I shut down for a few hours, I've to repeat the adjustment of date / time again.
Do I simply unplug and replace the old battery with a new battery one or is there other things that is important I should do before unplugging the battery ?

FIRST you should unplug the system from power source and only after that you can replace the battery

Losing or gaining time is not always an indicator of a failing battery, if the time keeps reverting to a previous date that is a better indicator.

If you do want to change the battery id is very straigtt forward. If you have made any custom shnahes to the BIOS you may want to write these down as they may be lost if you remove the battery, other than that - no special precautios - just remove the old battery and replace it wilth a new one. - Probably best to open up the machine - get the battery number and order a new battery so you can just do a quick swap when the times comes.
