Look in his hosts file and check to make sure google is not blocked, in case a virus has modified the hosts file to block certain websites.
Windows Vista = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVER
Windows XP = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVER
Windows 2K = C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\

There may have been a malformed page that was successfully cached, so he's getting it from the cache instead of from Google. Try forcing a refresh with <ctrl>+<F5>.
It may also be hijacked, but I'd doubt it would be replaced with a blank page. Try scanning for spyware et.al.
