The problem is that those files are currently in use (so you cannot access them). Use a program like "Unlocker" to determine which processes are using which files.

Browse All TopicsOften I need to copy entire profiles to another drive and the problem I run into is some files or folders have permissions which gives me an "Access Denied" error even after I've taken ownership of the profile tree. I was thinking I could add user "Everyone" to the profile with full permissions and cascade those permissions down to all child objects. Then, remove the user "Everyone" after I was done with what I'm doing.
Is this possible without messing up any of the other existing profiles?
Can I remove the user "Everyone" after I'm done and will that automatically be removed on all children in the directory tree?
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Don't confuse "Groups" with "Users".
If you want "Joe" to have access - him it to him through the ideas shown above.
Your problem will come with modifying the "Group" (everyone), because Joe (the user account) is a member of the everyone "Group".
Anything you change for the group will affect every account that is a member of the group.

"Can I remove the user "Everyone" after I'm done and will that automatically be removed on all children in the directory tree?"
If you remove Everyone from the ntfs permissions from a parent it will remove it from all children.
You may want to try
"Replace permissions entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects" Which is under Advanced security settings - > permissions tab
