How to stop one svchost.exe process from consuming 99% of CPU resources

Asked by awbenitez in Microsoft Operating Systems, Windows XP Operating System, PC Laptops

My HP nx6115 laptop has developed a svchost.exe issue that I can't seem to clear up. Each time that the unit is booted it promptly goes to 100% CPU usage. I have turned everything off in the startup and still it continues. Using task manager it is simple to identify that one svchost.exe process is consuming 99% of the CPUs resources. I terminate that process and then everything is fine. I have no further difficulty and have found nothing that is affected by turning off that process. I have run spyware and have a fully active and update virus scan software running at all times. I realize that svchost.exe is a necessary process and there are several instances of it running. However, only one instance consumes all the resources and it doesn't seem necessary. I would like to get rid of whatever is causing this situation at startup but have failed to find it. Have read a lot on the web and the Microsoft site but have yet to stop it. Any help would be appreciated.Start Free Trial
