Installing OEM version of Windows XP that came with a Dell system to another PC (non-Dell)

Hello,

I had an older Dell system that I am no longer using. It came with an OEM version of Windows XP.

I have another PC I'd like to install this Windows XP to.  The problem is that it won't install from the CD because it says it's not a Dell system  (the other PC is Compaq)

Is there a way to get it to install?

The way I see it -  I own a license for this Windows XP, and I don't see why it would matter what hardware I'm putting it on.  It's not that I'll be using the same license on 2 systems, the old system is already reformatted (and running Linux).


If you're going to reply with the 'legalities' of doing this, that's fine but please understand I'm asking for a solution on getting it to install on a non-Dell computer.  If I later need a new product key because it won't accept my old product key I'll contact Microsoft directly for that.
