"Audacity" creating new tracks

Asked by younghv in Microsoft Operating Systems, General Multi-Media Software, Digital Music and Video

I've been playing with Audacity for a couple of days, trying to figure out how to break down audio book tapes (+/-45 minute tracks) into smaller (3-5 minute tracks).

As you can see from the attachment, there are already 'pauses' (look at about 5:15, 7:15, and 9:15) in the big track - so I'm just trying to figure out how to turn those pauses into separate tracks.

Right now, I have 8 tracks of about 40-45 minutes each and I could burn 8 CD's. If I can break the big tracks into smaller chunks, I should be able to reduce that to only 4-5 CD's.

Please post back any comments/questions. I'll keep the Audacity file open so that I can test any suggestions you have.

Thank you.
