I have a Windows Active Directory network that is experiencing a DNS issue. We have one server that runs DHCP and DNS.
What is happening is that our fileserver gets a second DNS entry in the Forward Lookup zones which has the incorrect IP address. This then creates havok when workstations try to contact the wrong machine to access the file server.
I believe the issue started when we moved the server and accidently plugged in the wrong NIC which was set to DHCP. We figured that out pretty quickly and resolved it...but now I think it is remembering the IP address it received at that point.
To temporarily fix the issue I just delete the second entry but after about a day or so it returns.
I did notice that scavenging was NOT turned on. I turned it on and set it for two days. I'm hoping that this is the cause and the resolution.
Can anyone else give me any insight on what I need to do to find out why the second entry is being created and what is creating it?
Thank you,
Brian
