What is the boot sequence for Windows XP?

What is the boot sequence for XP?  I mean what is run or loaded when?

Just curious...what would happen if they weren't there or were corrupted??
Windows will not start.

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

<Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe.
Please reinstall a copy of the above file. "
