amaru21 everything worked ok prior to reinstal, All I have done is transferred the MB. and HD into a new case .so my lad would have a pc , for schoolwork.all parts installed came from original pc.I have some doubts on the validity of the XP program. that is why i want to format and reboot using my licensed Xp software, this can be used on more than one PC.When I start up the PC I get the usual white writing .which includes .something about the floppy reboot disk,I have not got this.So What i want to do is jusr reboot the pc with the Genuine Xp Cd and run from the drive that has the cd installed, but cannot access the drives,So if i get into Bios I will be able to select the install option /repair from the cd.Am I correct in this. to access Bios on boot without HD what do i need to do. thanks

You should be able to access BIOS even without a hard drive. Are you sure the rest of the components (motherboard, memory, cpu, power supply, etc) are working?
