Question

Pictures on my web page don't display correctly sometimes

Asked by: Bloxsom

I have attached a picture that is on my web site.  You can see that it doesn't display right when viewed on IE7 from a client computer.  The picture is fine on my web server.  Why does it display like this and sometimes it is fine ?  Is it on the server side or the client side?  How do I fix this ?  I am running IE7 (Windows XP Pro) on the client side and the web server is running Windows Server 2003.

is it just this one computer it doesn't work on?  If I had to guess, I'd say it's a hardware/driver issue...

Try it on another machine with IE7 if you can, and see if you can see the same corruption there too...

If you transfer the image from the server to your system and view it locally do you see the same thing?  It looks like the image may be corrupted. i.e. you have multiple images overplayed.

by: RQuadlingPosted on 2009-05-05 at 12:39:00ID: 24308396

Can you save the image once it is in the browser. Then use a tool to compare the saved image vs the original image.

Save the image several times and see if they also compare safely.

You can use something like ...

FC /b original.jpg saved.jpg

Be prepared for a LOT of data if it is different.

You could also use a tool like Wireshark to see if the communication of the image is the same. Is the request the same every time.

Make sure your browser is set to always get the file for every request.

Load IE.

Choose "Tools" from the menu.
Then on the "General" tab, click the Browsing history "Settings" button.
On the "Temporary Internet Files and History Settings" tab, make sure "Every time I visit the webpage" is selected.

It would be worth clearing the cache also.

I did not see the problem in the image you posted above when viewed on my computer using IE7.  It looked fine.
