They won't be installed unless the user installs them. 'Download and notify' does just that. It notifies the users that the updates are ready, but it won't install them unless the user chooses to do so.

yellow shield for windows updates
our clients are getting windows patches through WSUS and clients get yellow shield at the task bar when updates are availabls .Group policy has been setup and it's set on Configure automatic updates at option "3" which is autodownload and notify to install"
the question is if client ignores the yellow shield will updats never be installed ?? or it will be installed ofter certen time ?? is there any references for this ??Thanks

If is set at that option they will not install until the user gives the ok.
If you want to stop the shield from showing you can use the command "net stop wuauserv".
It will stop the service and the shield will go away. When you want to install the updates, use net start wuauserv and the shield will pop up and you can finish the installation.
