Question

cannot install .exe files

I can install .msi files, but when i try to run .exe files I get an error pop up message.  this is the text:

umable to execute file in the temporary directory.  Setup aborted.  Error 5: access is denied.

i checked the permission on the administrative account in doccuments and settings (that is the account i am using to try and install) and I have sufficent acccess to the directorys and all subdirectories to write to folders.  is ther another location that i need to be looking for a temp folder in?

Are you selecting the "Run" option straight from IE when you are trying to install these programs? If so, try saving the .exe to your desktop before running it.

Also, this temporary directory is... \Documents and Settings\<USER>\Local Settings\Temp\

Check your permissions there.

Are you using MvAfee? If yes - try to disable (temporary ) HIPS (Host Intrusion Protection System)

There is also a Temp directory in the Windows directory.  Try that,  are you the Admin?  Is PC a domain member?

You can always give your self full access to C: and set it to inherrit permisions to all sub-folders.

Mike GGG we have Mccaffee, but we use the enterprise version which i believe does not have that "feature"

Hi there,

Confirm your temp folder locations by right clicking my computer and selecting properties. Then click on advanced. Then Environmental variables.

Check your paths and then confirm that you have the appropriate permissions to those locations.

Have you tried disabling anti-virus and/or firewall.

Similar problems have been reported by Comodo users. Are you using it?

I checked the envionmentl variable setting for the temp directory and it seems to be pointing the folder i checked permissions for.  I am signed on as administrator (local) and this is a domain member.

Are you trying to run these executables from network resources such as Network Drives?

Some installers create their own temporary folders.

Wondering if that may be the case.

correct.  contacted the manufacturer and the installer was creating it's own temp folder.
