You might have logged into the wrong profile. Go to the Documents and Settings folder and see if there are multiple users listed there. Browse through their files (assuming you have the rights to do so) and see if you can find your files.

ive just been in my c:\ documents and settings and found two folders, one called BOSS which is what my account is called, dont laugh lol,and anotehr called Boss.AAA followed by some numbers, all my documnets are in BOSS and its like the comp has created a new one called Boss AAA and loading that if that makes sense

Is the computer connected to a domain of some sort?

I would just create another admin account and change the settings so windows forces you to enter in your credentials before logging in. Log into the admin account you just created and copy all your files over to the new admin profile. Then reboot the computer, log in, and delete the other two profiles

Think of a single file of which you know the name and search for it.  Make sure you are searching the whole c: drive root.  Use wildcards (ie. *) if you're not sure about the name.  Or, just search for someting like "*.jpg"

by: besthelpPosted on 2009-09-22 at 16:07:36ID: 25398490

i am the admin, and its got a password on it,its not connected to any network or domain, cani not force it to load that profile when i click on my account on the login, and my account is the only one.

i can find the files using the current account windows xp seems to have created me,they are in documnets and setting, and in the user folder called BOSS which is the original and proper folder, seems as tho im on a fresh account, how do i get it to load that folders 'profile' when i log in.

by: sl8rzPosted on 2009-09-22 at 17:58:53ID: 25399210

Just move the files from the current folder to the Document and Settings folder of the profile you want (just have to have admin rights).

If you right click on my computer and select Manage. Now go into Local Users and Groups. Tell me what users can currently log onto the computer.

You can get around that access denied thing n one of two ways (probably more):

1.) Change the permissions on the folder that's giving you the access denied message

2.) Set your new profile up exactly the way you like it (without the actual files/documents) being there and then load up knoppix and just drag and drop the files over.

by: besthelpPosted on 2009-09-23 at 06:20:21ID: 25402722

thisis a screenshot of the user groups thing u asked me to do...as for changing the permisson on the BOSS folder how do i do that? if i copy all the files over using knoppix (i have no idea what that is lol),would the way windows loaded be same as b4,as in all the shortcuts and links etc all be in the same place, the desktop items etc

by: sl8rzPosted on 2009-09-23 at 07:33:34ID: 25403522

I would not be too hopeful that you'll find a silver-bullet to reset everything to the way it was before.  You are, in my opinion, very fortunate to have access to all your data files.  This being said, I am sorry for the problem you are in.  Consider that starting with a new profile and moving gigabytes of data to new folders seems far less painful than having to spend hours recovering files that have been overwritten and then reinstalling Windows.

and ive lost all my bookmarks etc in mozilla and iexplorer.how do i get them back?

by: sirocco87Posted on 2009-09-23 at 08:27:51ID: 25404292

If you manage to get access to the profile folder where all your files are located do the following

1.) To retrieve IE bookmarks:
Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\[Profile folder where your files were]\Favorites
Copy all of the files here and paste them into C:\Documents and Settings\[Current Profile Folder]\favorites

2.) To retrieve Firefox bookmarks, settings, etc
Browse to C:\Documents and Settings\[Profile folder where your files were]\Application Data\
Copy the ENTIRE Mozilla folder and paste it into C:\Documents and Settings\[Current Profile Folder]\Application Data\

That's funny...the # sign for us is pound :)

Anyway, in the control panel, under Regional and Language Options, you can change the default language and currency types, etc.  Good luck.
