You could get a new install CD from HP with the drivers, either by cintacting them or perphaps from their website, i think the price for it (shipping and handling) is less than 30$..

Browse All TopicsI need to put XP Pro back into a machine. The user cannot find the OEM disk for the install. I have a Volume License disk for i386 architecture that would work, (I would then need to hunt down drivers for it...) My question is about licensing. If I put a volume licensed version of XP Pro in the machine does this constitute a breach in the EULA?
The Machine is an old HP.

Hello john6216,
Yes, and you can download the latest drivers from HP website.
As a suggestion, as you lost OEM CD, you can create Slipstreamed image, integrated with HP Drivers
There are free tools for the same. Nlite is of the best -http://www.nliteos.com/

Thanks for the answer. Here is what I gather from your answers please verify before I award points.
frostburn:
I can use the Volume License disk (if it will go in not sure on this old computer's motherboard mftr) as long as there is a valid license. The certificate of authenticity sticker is still in place on the machine. (barely) so that should be proof of a valid license. Outside of that I don't have access to any other records.
judgefredd:
This is a good idea, but the time it takes to get in touch with HP support and tell them that I do not have a service contract blah blah blah, I would have already been able to load the OS in the machine and be on my way to find drivers.
SebastianCA:
unclear of your answer please elaborate.

This is a great tool to keep in mind. For this case the time investment doesn't make sense to create a new disk as I only have one of these models under my care.
Could anyone add anything to this response before I close out this question and award points?
thanks
Once you have loaded XP on the machine you could try the following procedure.
It shows how you can change your XP product key once Windows is installed.
The oem cd-key on the laptop probably wont work when you use the volume license disk to install, but you can try that first.

Hi there,
The short answer. In my experience as long as you have a valid license to show for each copy of windows you are running then you are ok as far as Microsoft is concerned.
Hope this helps
