Browse All TopicsI have a user that is experiencing sporadic outlook send and receive delays. When he sends a message, sometimes it just sits in his outbox for several hours or overnight. He is also experiencing this type of delay in receiving. Someone will send an email, and he won't get it until the next day.
I have checked the auto send option in outlook for every 10 minutes, so it's not a manual send/receive issue.
The pc is xp pro, with outlook 2003. The exchange server is also 2003. The server sits on a different subnet connected over a Comcast line via SSL VPN. We also have Trend Micro's IMHS (Interscan message hosting service) running to weed out spam.

If it's not Offline, it could be an inconsistent connection to the Server over that VPN. If the client cannot see the server reliably, it cannot send the message.
I would also try turning off Cached Exchange Mode (if it's on) on the Outlook client and restarting Outlook. If things work better, show up quicker, etc., you could point this toward the choppy connection or also try recreating the Outlook profile on the PC to see if it clears up and corruption/miscommunicatio

Check the lower right of the Outlook window. Does it say Disconnected or Offline? It sounds like he is working in Offline mode. Just click that menu in the lower right and uncheck Work Offline.
