Sounds like it could be a bad sector on the hard drive. Since you can get into Safe Mode, try scanning the hard drive and "automatically fix errors" and see if that helps.

If you can still go to Safe Mode, try the following:-
1. Open My Computer
2. Right-click the local drive C drive and click Properties
3. Go to the Tools tab and click "Check Now" button
4. You will be prompted with UAC, click Continue
5. A new window will be pop up and check on both check boxes in front of of "Automatically fix file system error" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".

is not accessible. Access is denied. - the "Desktop") and right click then go to
properties, then go to the Security tab and click edit, you'll then be
able to restore access by making sure
all boxes under the heading "allow" have a tick in them.
