sfc /scannow should deal with the issues.  I do not believe MS provides such information.
You could biuld a clean system (virtual or physical) and then create the hashes yourself.

Thanks arnold.

I`m familiar with sfc but I have built my own validation tool - I just need the `offical` values to compare against.
It has crossed my mind that I would do what you suggest by doing a clean install using virtual PC and get the values from there - but I don`t want to reinvent the wheel if I can help it.... Especially if someone has already done it and published the data somewhere...

If someone else has generated MD5 hashes on windows installed components, the MD5 is as valid as your trust in the individual who collected the MD5 hashes.
The problem is that updates alter some file at different times such that an installed version with certain patches may have one set of files and corresponding MD5 hashes while another system that did not have a particular update installed, will have a different set of MD5 for some files.

Your validation tool will have to take too much information into account i.e. You have to know how each patch affects the installed files.
I.e. if SP3 KB000001 and KB000002 are installed but kb000003 is not installed you will have one set of MD5 hashes if another system that you validate has kb000001 and kb000003 installed, you will likely run into files where the MD5 hashes do not match because absence of KB000002 alters one set of files while the presence of KB000003 alters a different set.
You may have to get the version of each file and then compare the MD5 hash of the specific file version.

Thanks for the reply arnold.

I'm only aiming to validate individual files - not sets of files.

I wonder if no-one has done this - or not published such info - whether there might be a market for such information - not what I had in mind originally - but its a thought...

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290 a verification tool.

You could check the technet forums http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/categories.

The number of files that would be involved might be a possible reason why such a list is not available.
