Browse All TopicsAttention all SQL Experts,
I have attached a database to my MS SQL 2005 Express running SBSMonitoring. However, when I try to connect from a client workstation that is on the same domain. I get a "connection failed" error.
I have setup Surface Area Configuration to allow both Named Pipe and TCP/IP under the Remote Connections tree.
*** I am unsure as to the correct port number but I am using Port 1433 in the client configuration section of the system DSN.
*** I am unsure if I am using the correct Server Name under the client configuration section of system DSN.
For troubleshooting I have disabled the firewall completly. My OS is Server 2008 SBS
Thanks!

Also check whether remote connections are enabled correctly as per..

>> The service is running as Local Account.
hope you referred it for Local System account.
And you need to have Administrative privileges in your machine to get it started..
Kindly try it from some other admin login along with other set of configurations given above..
In addition... The port number that I assumed was correct (1433) was incorrect the actual port number was 13699. I found this by going to SQL Server Manger and choising the database. Under TCP/IP I found that the port number 13699 was listed. I am unsure if this is the default or if somehow this port was assigned during troubleshooting. However, once I corrected this in my ODBC DSN connection "Client Configuration" I was able to connect and see my database. WOOOHOOO>
Thanks!!!
