proliant dl380 G3 server 2008 deployment from SmartStart 8.5 CD not mounting flat files or DVD iso

Having trouble mounting flat files or DVD iso for Sever 2008 R2 or Server 2008 standard 32bit or 64bit editions via SmartStart 8.5 bootable CD. It gives me invalid entry for anything I attempt to mount and it does detect the DVD because it lists the ISOs and the flat files off the DVDs I created for it. I want to use the SmartStart CD because another posting here in Experts Exchange Knowledge base recommended it to solve most of the drivers needed for Server 2008, since HP is only supporting server 2000/2003 currently for the G3 model. Please advise.

HP is supporting 2000/2003 on G3 does the 8.5 smart start even support G3 try an older smart start but I think you need newer hardware or older os

Yes it does support server 2008 deployment, downloaded it from HP site directly after finding the suggestion here at Experts Exchange knowledge base for some 2008 drivers solutions. Even though it states 2003 there is a 2008 deployment in the SmartStart CD. Plus there is advisory link for server 2008 for this G3 series, which is the second link below. What I need help with is why it states invalid entries, if you give me something substantial where it explicitly states this CD is only for 2003 support for the G3 then I can accept that as a solution and will obviously post another question if upgrading from 2003 to 2008 will work or how are people working around this because obviously they are. I don't need anything exotic on this server it will be used as a file server for us the IT dept. with RAID 5 on 6 UltraSCSI drives, but they want 2008 on it:

What media is your I stall source on?  2008 comes on DVD and I think most g3s had cd only. Try copying the flat files to USB and install from that.

i connected an external USB DVD RW to it and it boots the SmartStart CD from it as well as reads the DVD ISO and flat files, we have an MSDN account so I downloaded 32bit and 64bit versions of server 2008 and R2 and it will not mount either as flat files or a iso. I will be downloading and attempting 2003 as well just to rule out that it is the OS version, which I don't believe it is. I also tried it from USB drive but it does not detect it as USB key from within SmartStart environment.
How about via network share

I don't know that that is an option but if it is, I work at a datacenter and level 1 does not have credentials to join it to the company domain so that idea may work if i could get a level 2 or 3 to give me temporary credentials for that...wish could just use PIXE and capture/setup the image via WAIK thru VMware snapshot manager but only the higher level engineers can do that and don't even so, yeah my hands are tied and doing my best with what i was given. Either way, if i can't deploy it will need the 2008 drivers to make the raid accessible and work around the advisory that HP put out for that OS on this legacy hardware.
You only need access to a network share you don't need to join anything to the network.

well i don't have access to current file server but if i can hit one of the workstations or even my laptop, i can create a share there to the iso and flat files if that's what you're getting at. Either way, I think it my give me that invalid entry again, hopefully not because without it the second time i boot, it attempts to install 2008 server from the hpssem.exe file on the smartdrive partition it creates but of course since flat files or iso not mounted the HPSSEM.INI is missing so it does not work. This is the only thing i found out about it and it's not the case because it does recognize it. Will try the network share if allows me to browse to my laptop or workstation share with flat files or iso.

Well after some long attempts and research, I believe I will have to load Server 2008 longhorn version since only 32 bit os capable, didn't see a 32 bit version for R2 but i believe it should work. However it did not for me, told me it was incompatible. I will try to load PsP after the fact, don't know how well if at all it will work. Will report back discovery. By the way, the network share failed, could not load it, not the NIC or LAN issues as I could hit the exact share from other workstations and servers but not this one. However I was able to browse the internet thru same tow NICs. Also tried 2003 server flat files and iso and still got same error when attempting to mount dvd or iso.
