Question

how to configure MSDTC in Windows 2000/SQL 2000

Asked by: Soccerman55

I am trying to configure my windows server 2000 for remote data access. I
want to do security configuration for MS DTC and enable Network DTC Access,
Allow Remote Clients, Allow Inbound, Allow Outbound Transactions. Does any one know how this can be done on a windows server 2000 / sql 2000?  I know how to do it on a win 2003 server.

Thanks for the link but it doesn't give details on how to actually do the configuration.  It gives explanations of different topics.

I need directions on where to actually do the security configurations similar to in Win 2003 server.

Have a look here then - it's a KBA in response to an error, but the configuration steps should work fine.

Those instructions are for SQL 2000 on a Win 2003 box.  I need to be able to do that same configuration on a win 2000 box.  Those are the settings that I cannot find out to set.

Thanks,
John

Sorry John, you're absolutely correct. Tired eyes (I thought I'd got that). I can't seem to find any documentation specific to Windows 2000 - I will keep looking. It is possible that it is the same as in XP, so I will check.

No problem, I appreciate the help!  XP seems to be basically the same as win 2003.

Maybe these settings don't exist in Win 2000?  It just seems hard to believe that it would on a win 2003/sql 2000 box & not a win 2000/sql2000 box.

Thanks again!
John

Have a look at this: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=678615&SiteID=1

It appears that there aren't any configuration settings, and there is some commentary on how to get a W2K3 and XP box talking to the W2K server.
