Detect and repair extra long file names in windows.

Hey,
Our file server is getting a bit out of control. I'm finding programs like MS briefcase used to synchronize data onto employees computers, flash disks, external hard drives etc are constantly failing.

One of the reasons why I think we are having trouble is due to the fact many employees have created files and directories greater than 256 characters in length.

Is there a program or someway that I can scan the file server for all of these long file names so I go through and re organize them all?

Would these extra long file names be the cause of various synchronization programs not working properly?

Cheers
