Can't Delete Domain Controller from Active Directory

Asked by mtcuser01 in Windows 2000 Server, Active Directory, Domain Name Service (DNS)

I am working in my lab attempting to test some new software. While trying to add a new machine to my lab, I realize that my AD/DC won't allow me to add it to the test domain. I begin to troubleshoot and looking through the logs and see that I am getting a lot of Directory Service errors. There seems to be some conflicting errors with a previous DC that was removed without demoting it first. This is where I'm stuck. If a DC is removed improperly and my AD still thinks it's out there, how do I remove it from AD? I have done several searches, but all the "forcing demotion" and "Deleting" has to do with the DC still existing physically...

I am using Window Server 2000 w/ SP 4
