The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Moving XP local user settings/preferences to domain account & restricting local signon.

Tags: domain, local, xp, user, move
Hi  - 2 part question here. My first post, so excuse me if its not the right format -

We are currently moving from a workgroup to a domain. About 30 PC's are running XP Pro sp2. Controller is running Server 2000.

I am looking for an easy way to move the users local profile to the domain profile so it is transparent to the user when they login to the domain. (i.e. no visible change in any settings to them)

Mainly it is the Outlook profile, I dont want to have to recreate each account (exchange - hosted, not internal) from scratch when I log on to the domain account. But also, desktop shortcuts, start menu, explorer favorites, wallpaper etc need to come over.

The domain usernames are different then the names used to login to the pc locally, and we dont want to change the names on the domain controler to match the local names, as they are accustomed to using them when they log in remotely via the terminal server.

I tried logging in as a local admin and copying the folder from the local to domain profile folder and got the desktop icons over but still Outlook wont copy, nor will favorites or wallpaper. Outlook opens on the domain account like it was just installed for the first time. So does Word/Excel.

Once its all moved over, then i want to lock out the PC's from being able to log in to anything but the domain, unless its a local admin account only.

Im not worried about files on the local pc's, they are all stored on a file server that I can just redirect the home folders to.

Any ideas?
