Dear experts,
Need some help/input from experts in restoring my Exchange backup.
My Exchange server crashed before the weekend and it wouldn't boot up. I performed some tests and had contacted the vendor (Dell) and at the end it was confirmed that both SATA disks had gone. With them shipping us two new disks my job is to restore Exchange on the server.
OS = Windows 2000 server with SP4 (it is a member server NOT a DC)
Exchange 2003 Enterprise (the only exchange server)
Backup = Yes (taken from NTBackup that came with Windows) and it was taken the night before it crashed. Also got System State Data backup on the server.
It is the first time I restore Exchange, so I need some input from the experts. Here is my action plan after get the disks and build the array.
1. Install OS
2. Restore System State Data from backup (Will that automatically rejoin the server to the domain?) or shall I restore System State Data after joining the domain?
3. Install Exchange (Don't think I need to run forest/domain prep again, but do I install as the FIRST Exchange server or an Additional one from the option?)
4. Restore from backup
Is the above steps right? My questions are basically those quoted above in my action plan. Has anyone got any documents/links/articles regarding the procedures/steps to restore Exchange? I have heard before that Exchange couldn't be restored from the backup which is taken from NTBackup, is that true?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
