I have a Windows 2000 Server DC that failed to reboot and I cannot get it back and running at all. The system was rebooted because TS users were experiencing strange stuff. This is what I have tried and the orer I tried it.
Boot normal. The system Hangs at Preparing Network Connections. The system shows the color animation on the status box, but will never progress any farther. You can ping the PC and get a ping back, but no TS users can logon.
Boot the system in safe mode. The OS gets to the point where you can press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get a to a logon box. If you do this, the system hangs at a black safe mode screen and will never give you a logon box.
Boot the system in Last Known Good Config. You get the same results as a normal boot.
Boot to a Server 2000 OS Install disk and perform Fast Repair with all options. This runs fine, but changes nothing for results on a boot.
Boot system with USB,COM ports,NICs all disabled, and OS install mode on. No difference in all types of boot modes.
Swapped RAM with another known good set of memory. No difference in all types of boot modes.
Boot to a command prompt with the OS install disk and look at ntbtlog.txt. I am not sure what I am looking for here, but the last driver to load is EFS.sys.
What does a guy need to do to get this thing working?
Thanks, Pat
