Domain Controller losses access to Domain

Asked by TPHealth in Windows 2000 Server, Active Directory

Tags: , , ,

DC's run Win 2000 Server SP4 - 5.00.2195
I had users call and tell me that they had lost access to their primary data store on the DC at Site2, they could access the data stored on the DC at Site1 where they were now being authenticated, but this location doesn't include their own data.  Checking the access from a Site2 system I noted a username and password is requested for access but not even the domain admin account would grant access.
I can ping Site1 DC from Site2 DC by IP and name and visa versa.  If I go into AD users and computers on the Site1 DC the Site2 DC machine name no longer appears in Domain Controllers.  If I try to recreate it manually I get the message that it already exists, but it no longer appears and the DC is not functioning.
If I go into AD domains and trusts on the Site2 DC I get "The configuration infomation describing this enterprise is not available. No authority could be contacted for authentication".
I am kind of stuck and would appreciate some assistance.
Thank you
TP
