0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA doesn't boot in safe mode. File ntoxkrnl.exe

I have an old Windows 2000 Server installation serving terminal sessions to remote users. It's on a Dell Dimension 8600 computer. It stopped working (I wasn't here, but there was no new hardware installed). and on reboot gets the 0x00000050 error noting the ntoskrnl.exe file. I started troubleshooting by moving RAM from another 8600, then just moved the hard drive from the nonworking machine to another 8600 (and restored the RAM to the original machine). It continues to fail with the 0x00000050 PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error.
The memory address numbers are different:
Original machine safe mode 0xE4AA3004 0x00000000 0x80524E2A 0x00000001
New machine safe mode 0xE1DF3004 0x00000000 0x805291E6 0x00000001
New machine regular boot 0xE4AA8004 0x00000000 0x805291E6 0x00000001

I tried booting from CD and copying the ntoskrnl.exe file, but after boot and identifying the installation I want to repair, it gives the same error with the memory address:
0xE1ECB004 0x00000000 0x80524E2A 0x00000001

I'm out ouf ideas! Help much appreciated.
