Having problems Tranfering Schema role

I have just started at my current job and unfortunately recieved no handover of the current network state.  So I am unsure exactly what has been done up to this point but I'll go through how things are now....

3 domain controllers

DC1  =  Windows 2000 server (global catalog server, Schema Role)   DNS

DC2  =  Windows 2003 Server R2 (Domain role, PDC role, RID role, Infrastructure role) Primary DNS server

DC3  =  Windows 2003 Server R2 (no FSMO roles, Global Catalog server)
(there are two other domain controllers but they are on different subnets at other sites, they have DNS and DHCP servers running on them but have no FSMO roles)

I want to get rid of the 2000 server all together as it is very old and dodgy.  I have followed instructions on tranfering the Schema role but it will not work, the change button is greyed out when trying to do it through GUI.

Am I right in thinking that all that is remaining for me to do is transfer that role (and shares etc) then demote the box?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to accomplish this?
