Correctly Configuring the w32time Service on a Domain Controller

Hello Experts

I was receiving event ID's 54 & 64 on our Domain Controller with w32Time as the source.

Source: w32Time
Catagory: None
EventID: 54
Description:
The Windows Time Service was not able to find a Domain Controller. A time and date update was not possible.

Source: w32Time
Catagory: None
EventID: 64
Description:
Because of repeated network problems, the time service has not been able to find a domain controller to synchronize with for a long time. To reduce network traffic, the time service will wait 960 minutes before trying again. No synchronization will take place during this interval, even if network connectivity is restored. Accumulated time errors may cause certain network operations to fail. To tell the time service that network connectivity has been restored and that it should resynchronize, execute "w32tm /s" from the command line.

I did some research around the internet and on the microsoft site and came to the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/216734/en-us

I followed its instructions, and the time service seems to be running OK on the Domain Controller.
I've rebooted my own computer and the time is in sync with the server which is great. I still have to check the event log tomorrow to be sure that the warning has gone away.

I suppose my real questions are:

1) How do I tell how often the domain controller refreshes the network with the time?

2) Is there a simple command I can run on the member servers that will resync with the domain controller?Start Free Trial
