I'm getting event Id errors 10035 and 10047 from source RSVP, relating to the configuration of the QoS management console.
www.eventid.net led me to a couple of support articles, but these leave me with a couple of questions (see uppercase text below)
Article 322146 from Microsoft support says:
To properly configure the QoS service:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click QoS Admission Control to
start the QoS Management console.
2. In the console tree, click Subnetwork Settings.
3. On the Action menu, click Add subnetwork. If you are reconfiguring an existing subnet, click Action, and
then click Properties.
4. Type the IP address for the subnet by using the following format:
IP address/subnet mask width in bits (for example, 192.168.16.0/24)
WHAT IS THE SUBMET MASK WIDTH OF 24 HERE? I WANT TO USE THE FULL RANGE OF IP ADDRESSES FROM 192.168.1.1 TO 192.168.1.254 ON MY LAN. I TRIED PUTTING 192.168.1.0/254 BUT IT WOULDN'T ACCEPT IT, SO I PUT 192.168.1.0/24. IT ACCEPTED THIS, BUT IS THIS OKAY?
On the Servers tab in the Subnetwork Properties dialog box, type the name of the server. You are then
prompted for the domain name and password.
6. Stop and then restart the QoS Admission Control service.
ON THE OTHER HAND, WHEN I LOOKED UP EVENT 10047, I FOUND ARTICLE 840463 WHICH SAYS:
To work around this problem, disable the QoS RSVP service. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
2. In the right-pane of the Services window, right-click QoS RSVP, and then click Properties.
3. On the General tab, click Disabled in the Startup Type list, and then click OK.
4. Close Services.
WOULD I BE BETTER DOING THIS AND DISABLING QoS? WHAT DOES QoS DO AND IS IT NECESSARY?
