Can we remove Wins server in windows 2000 active directory

We have windows 2000 active directory environmennt with wins server (on windows 2003 standard) and dns server (on windows 2000).
every computer is pointing to the DNS server and Wins server.
I am wondering if we can remove the Wins server and just use DNS server in our environment.
If yes, what is the disadvantage?
