I understand what you are saying. I set my dfs share without links so I do not have replication. Must be conincidental the share info comes up quickly for them. Thanks

DFS windows 2000 - where are the replicated folders located
I use DFS in my mixed Windows 2000 / 2003 (not r2) environment with FRS. I setup the site topology for my two child domains and myself. My DFS share is \\domain\replicatedfolder and is located on my dns root parent domain. Where does FRS replicate the information too on my child domains? I set up no folder and checked SYSVOL and no info is there yet it seems the remote sites can access DFS share quickly even though there is poor WAN latency so I assume the share info is local to them. Thx

You tell it where to replicate the data - they must be shares on existing servers. You specify them when you create the targets in your Link. You have to set replication - it is an option. It should be possible to see the targets from the DFS Management Console.
Perhaps the WAN latency is not as bad as you think or the data transfers are small. Can you find a way to test if the data is stored locally or not? For example, can you deliberately disconnect the WAN link and see if the DFS share is still accessible?
