Crystal reports - Group tree will not display

I have a Crystal report that is using an sql command as a data base file. I have groups defined, but the group tree does not display. The toggle group tree is grayed out. What would cause this?

Not sure what you mean by Crystal designer. I am using Crystal XI.

This is when I design and run the report. I have the full Crystal installed. Not in a viewer.

Do you have the CREATE GROUP TREE option unchecked?

Check FILE --> REPORT OPTIONS

I don't know.  I haven't seen the issue.

Do you have another machine you can try the report on to see if it happens on another machine?

Actually I sent the report to someone else that is proficient in Crystal. He is on a completely different system. He could not get it to work either and did not find a reason.

This may seem to be a bit silly but, The report does have groups right?

Following this thread I was also wandering if the report actually had groups, if it does are they showing up correctly in the rest of the report body?
I did have a problem with the group tree displaying once a long time ago, the problem that time was that the field I was grouping on had invalid data(can't remember how or what) and this caused problems generating the group tree.

i just had this problem. for some reason the group tree option was unchecked.
i checked it and it didnt work immideatily.
But then i saved the report with another name and when i opened it the group tree was working.
does not make much sense but it worked on my report

I have just given up on this one. The report does have groups. They work correctly. Just no group tree.

none of these solutions seemed to work. I appreciate all of the proposed solutions. But none seemed to work, so I want to withdraw the question
