We recently aquired an IBM System x3850 M2 (P/N 7141-4RU) , for an ERP Application, which requires Windows 2000 Server to run on. IBM States that with this server model, Windows Server 2000 is not supported.. When I Run the IBM Serverguide CD (7.4.16) The option to install win 2000 is greyed out, and the window states 'Any options that are greyed out are unsupported) . I attempted to install the OS from the CD directly (after configuring the LSI Megraid adapter) and the install froze up on the initial 'Starting Windows 2000 Setup' screen..
My question is this,.. Has anyone gotten Windows 2000 Server Advanced Edition installed successfully on an IBM x3850 M2 with lall Drivers to work properly.. and if so, what was the procedure?
Yes Vmware could be an option, but not short term. I'm sure there is a physical way of getting 2k on the system, avoiding ibm's unsupported roadblock.. The issue is we have no option to upgrade to 2k3, as the erp application needs to run on 2000
So in the RedPaper from IBM, it says Windows 2000 Data Center is not supported:
"IBM now offers two methods to run Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 R2, Datacenter Edition on the x3950 M2, either the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version. Windows 2000 Datacenter Server is not supported."
